Alfred Edward Rose
Alfred Edward Rose born 27January 1892 in Halifax Nova Scotia to James Valentine Rose of Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire, England and Sarah Jane Conrod of Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, a descendant of the Conrad, Conrod line that came from Kleinheubach, Holy Roman Empire, to Halifax in 1751. He was tenth in a family of twelve. ...
At age 17 he joined his brother Arthur to work at Winnipeg Plate and Glass. In W.W.I, he enlisted in the Winnipeg Rifles, “Little Black Devils”, served overseas in France where he was gassed. He maintained an ongoing contact with his regiment for many years. After the war he chose Winnipeg as home and soon apprenticed in plumbing which became his lifelong trade.
Alfred married Katrin Gudlaug Thorarinson and resided at 528 Richmond Street Winnipeg. There they raised three children, James Samuel (Lorna McPhail), Kathleen Emily, Alfred Arthur (Gwenn Fry) At the time of his death he and Katrin resided at 253 Guildford Street, St. James.
Katrin Gudlaug Thorarinson
Katrin born 30 January 1895 in Winnipeg to Sigurdur Thorarinson of Raudamel Iceland and Katrin Brandsdottir of Olafsvik, Snaefellsnessysla, Iceland eleventh in a family of twelve. She attended Mulvey school until at age thirteen she hired on at T.Eaton Co. as a runner, then as parcel girl in groceries. After marriage, she stayed home to raise her family on Richmond Street. Later they relocated to Guildford Street St. James. Katrin lived 'til weeks short of her 101st birthday.
James Samuel Rose
James born 11 June 1921 in Winnipeg to Alfred Arthur Rose of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Katrin Gudlaug Thorarinson of Winnipeg was the first of three children. James attended Wolseley, Isaac Brock and Gordon Bell schools. He then worked with Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada) as a machinist in Winnipeg and Montreal. During W.W.I he joined the army, Ordinance Corps serving in Ontario.
James married Lorna McPhail and raised three children, James, Gerald and Diane.
